PORT TOWNSEND TO PORT OF SEATTLE

Marine Barging, Better for your goods. Better for Seattle.

Barge Whidbey – Pacific Terminals is Washington State’s only covered break-bulk barge service. Marine barging anchors our operations, delivering efficient, environmentally responsible cargo movement. At our Seattle terminal, freight transitions directly from barge to rail, truck, or container, supporting streamlined domestic and international distribution with reduced emissions

Estimated 65% Lower Carbon Emissions vs. Trucking

  • Seattle to Port Townsend – One Way Example (112 miles)
  • Transporting 60 truckloads by highway over 112 miles would consume approximately 1,120 gallons of fuel.
  • Moving the same volume by tug and barge (7-hour transit) consumes approximately 392 gallons of fuel.
  • That’s an estimated 65% reduction in fuel consumption — preventing approximately 8+ tons of CO₂ emissions per one-way voyage.

Each round trip avoids more than 16 tons of carbon emissions, while also:

  • Removing up to 60 trucks from regional highways
  • Reducing congestion and roadway wear
  • Minimizing traffic-related delays
  • Supporting cleaner, more efficient freight corridors

Marine transportation isn’t just cost-effective — it’s a measurable sustainability strategy.

People here are really cool and work very quickly. It gets tight with other trucks in docks but still manageable. Now that I know how to get here, I certainly don't mind coming back here.
